Fiance Visa - Applicant has no birth certificate

Post by WonderBread » Mon Jan 06, 2014 10:20 pm

Hi Guys,

Im a UK citizen with an Israeli girlfriend and we are planning to apply for a fiance visa so she can come here and get married.

However, she is originally from Ethiopia and moved to Israel in the early 90s (around 8 years old) as one of the many Ethiopian Jews who were helped to move to Israel under the law of return.

She was born in a village in Ethiopia and as such they dont register births or even celebrate birthdays.

She has an Israeli passport containing her official date of birth and has had no trouble coming to visit me in the UK a number of times.

Do you think a passport will be enough for the application or should we be trying to get some other documentation?

Additionally, we are hoping to use the premium service to convert to a spouse visa once married so Im concerned that this could throw a spanner in the works!

Thanks
Sam : )

Passport will be fine. It's usually deemed to be more valid proof of ID anyway.

That makes sense, I feel my own birth certificate is pretty useless apart from when I needed it to renew my passport.

Can anybody out there confirm if they have successfully made an application without an applicants birth certificate?
