Restrictions for passport application

Post by prathapgo » Thu Jan 23, 2014 2:35 pm

Hello all

I will be attending the oath ceremony next week and will be collecting the citizenship certificate.
However I will have to travel to India for a few months to attend to some emergencies and hope to apply for the British passport when I return to UK.
My question is, are there any time restrictions for applying for a British passport after receiving the citizenship certificate? i.e. can I apply for the british passport, 4-5 months after the date on the citizenship certificate?
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There is no time restriction to apply for a British passport after you ceremony. Although you need to research the forum regarding your Indian nationality etc once you obtain British citizenship and the grace period and penalties they can impose.

prathapgo ,

You need to cancel your Indian citizenship in 90 days from the date of British Citizenship acquisition. If you cancel after that Indian High Commission MAY penalty you. But if you can explain the reasons then I think you can get away with out penalty.

hope this helps.
