Not exactly a child.....

Post by Windsong » Fri Jul 06, 2007 9:06 pm

I am married to a british citizen and recently became a citizen myself. I have a daughter in the States who is 29 and she desperately wants to live in the same country where her mother lives. I miss my daughter so much and would love her to come here and be able to live and work.

I have been trolling looking for answers and have not come up with any. If it possible to bring my daughter here. Her father lives in the States, but he didn't and won't have anythng to do with her. I raised her by myself since she was 6.

Can anyone put me on to some information to resolve this problem?

Many thanks,

Windsong

Use the search, I answered almost the same question here earlier, it comes up often.

But today I'm not my usual grumpy self, I got a three grand tax rebate today so I'll save you the search time.

The answer is no, not on the back of ur status. However the news is not all bleak, if she can gain entry on her own merits then no problem. I'm thinking Work Permit or HSMP, does she have in-demand skills and a degree?

Otherwise it's a no I'm afraid, unless in the most extreme compassionate circumstances, like terminal illness etc, and that's not sth to even think about....

I'm grumpy now, I spent the 3k on a lap-dance SYN, and it wasn't worth it, you were rubbish!

NOT grumpy, maybe cranky.
next time don't spend so much money on a lap dance, your expectations were too high

Thank you for answering my question so graciously....it is appreciated.

It is not the answer I had hoped for. She has no particular skills other than some EMT training to work on an ambulance, but there are plenty of these folks over here.

Looks like we may be retiring back to the States.

Many thanks......

Graciously?
Unfortunately, as mentioned, nothing will be possible if she doesn't have any required skills. The only option would be if she wants to study - but that is not a settlement visa and she is expected to return after her studies (or, if she studies for a degree and above, extend her stay for one year under the IGS). Other than that, you're right - you might have to go back to the US if you really want to be close to her.
