Visa for Step Daughter - help appreciated

Post by mikerg76 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 12:37 am

Hi All,

I need some advice. Just to provide some background I am British born and bred and my wife is Thai. She is currently staying with me in the UK on her initial 2yr spouse visa granted on pre-July 2012 rules. My wife's visa expires in October of this year and we intend to apply for FLR rather than ILR as she needs to improve her english reading skills to be able to take the life in the uk test. So my query relates to my wife's 16yr old daughter back in Thailand. She was living with her father however sadly her father passed away last week. My wife and I would like to apply for a visa for her daughter (my step daughter) to join us in the UK. So I have a few questions.

1. I was informed that I'd need to apply using form vaf4a is that correct?
2. If so do I need to put my details in the Sponsor section?
3. If granted a visa would it expire the same date as my wife's current visa?
4. If I was to apply for FLR for my wife before applying for her daughter's visa would I still be able to apply using the vaf4a form?

Thanks

Mike

1. Yes, the online version.
2. Not sure. The sponsor is probably child's parent.
3. Yes, (D-ECC).
4. Yes, the online version.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if the financial requirement rules apply to this visa given that my wife's visa application was processed prior to July 2012?

Adequate maintenance and accommodation rather than a financial requirement.

Thanks Amber. My wife only works part-time so If I was to put her as the sponsor on her daughters visa would they also take into account my income as my wife's sponsor?

Amber/Vinny

If we have to put my wife as the sponsor on my step daughters visa application will they only take my wife's finances into account when checking for adequate maintenane or can I also include my financial information as my wife's sponsor?

If you both complete an undertaking form and if you include a written statement that your income should also be considered.

My step-daughter will be 18 years old on the 20th Feb 2015 does that mean she can apply as a child dependant anytime before this date. Or does she have to be under 18 at the time the visa is granted?
