Knowledge Of Language test at B1 level

Post by Henda » Fri Feb 07, 2014 3:21 pm

Hi,

I joined my husband here in the uk in april 2012 with a spouse visa and have completed a council of Europe level A1 english test.("Cambridge ESOL Entry Level Certificate in ESOL I(nternational(Entry 1)).

In June 2013 I successfully completed the Life In The UK Test which certifies that I have reached the level required for the purposes of obtaining Indefinite Leave to Remain.

Now, I am going to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain but since the rules have changed in october 2013 I am not sure whether I have to sit a B1 level English test or not.

From the information on UKBA, it says that people who came to uk prior to October 2013 are to follow the old rules...etc...

and it also says that everyone who's applying fo ILR must have a minimum of B1 Certification...

So my question is: Do I have to get a B1 Level Certificate?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Henda.

Yes, you now need a B1 English certificate. However, check this link to see if your current ESOL certificate qualifies: (It's the same requirement for ILR)

Thanks Casa for your reply. I thought I would have to get one.

I am planning to do this test:

elementary grade 4-6.

Is that ok?

Thanks

Yes. If you scroll down in this link, Trinity College is on the approved list.

Hi Henda

Just to share my experience as I thought you might find it useful.

I used the same B1 certificate from trinity college you have mentioned below and it was approved for my ILR application. I was granted ILR just a couple of weeks ago.
