Change of Surname - Tier-1 Dependent

Post by adityaisukapalli » Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:24 am

I am on Tier-1 General visa here and recently married. My wife came with me to Uk on Tier-1 Dependent visa. Now she wants to change her surname to my surname in Indian passport and her visa (sticker in the passport). Can any one please advice on how we can do this ?

1. Change of surname in Indian passport
2. Change of surname in UK Visa

You get all the info here http://hcilondon.in/passport.php

I have done it just a month back in London Indian passport office. You need to apply by standing in queue on a week day as early as 8:30 AM. They will ask you to come back 7 days later probably around 4 PM to collect the new passport. Charge is around 30 Quits. It takes one week for the whole process the complete. You dont have to change the name in Visa. you could send both the passports when you apply for new visa.

Good luck.

Thanks.

1. Will it not be a problem if she changes surname in passport now ? Our extension for Visa is in February.

2. Can she register for GP, Banks etc.. on new surname ?

namechange

Once you change the name in passport, you have 3 months to change in her BRP. Also the current waiting time to get BRP back after application is 4 months.
Check this http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=96960

1. She do not have a BRP. She has a Visa sticker in her passport. What to do now ?

2. When she change her surname in Passport, she will get a new passport. Will this have same old passport number ?
