Easiest EU countries for residency/migration for Aus citizen

Post by DinnyBoy » Fri Jan 19, 2007 2:03 am

This is a general question as I'm not certain of any particulars. I'm basicly unskilled although I have a diploma in prof writing and editing and have done some years on restaurant floors and behind bars. I am thinking of spain, czech republic, poland, possibly uk, possibly turkey (I know these two options don't relate to this particular forum).

What I'd like to know - are there particular EU countries for which a residency application is less complex or demanding than others? In the long term I am looking at migrating and of course it would need to be a country that I have a strong desire to migrate to but in the short to medium term I want the freedom of minimal work visa renewal dramas.

If there's no easy answer to this question then perhaps someone could tell me if there are countries that are fairly flexible with regards cash jobs and overstaying visas.

Sorry, I know it's a messy one but any help would be appreciated.

Say more about yourself. Do you have any parents/grandparents who are from europe? How old are you?

I'm 36 in June and have no relatives. I'm confident I'm going to have a difficult time and it may well be that it's near impossible but I want to exhaust all avenues and this seems a good place to get some direction.

If your parents or grandparents (or in some cases great grandparents) were from Europe, it may make it easier or easy for you. They do not need to be alive - but you usually need some documentation about their history.

Thanks for your replies - great grandparents, yes but documentation is impossible unless there are immigration documents available from births, deaths and marriages or some other department...? The only relative I can be sure of is great grandfather who was from Poland but as I've already mentioned I have no documentation or proof of bloodline other than a common surname.

If I were you, a native speaker of English, I'd try searching for teaching positions. The Schengen countries might put requirements such as "hold CELTA / TESOL degree, or X years of teaching experience locally", but it seems like Eastern Europe might be easier. I know a kiwi who worked in Czech Rep for about 1 year without much experience as a teacher back home. He said that although the salary wasn't great, he had flexible hours and was able to travel around.

Just an idea eh!

Thanks, good idea an i'm thinking on it. i don't have a degree so a dip ed is out an i know there're th other options for qualifications (as well as th no need if y cluey) but i'd like to cover all bases before jumping into something like that. I guess i'm hoping bar/waiting will sustain me for the most part.

is there anyone with experience first or second hand who can relate some information on emigrating to europe with no immediate relatives from the area?

UK is easy for Australians to get a work permit as far as I know.
