Can I use an ID card (EU) for applying for my British ppt?

Hi there !

I've got a big dilemma as my EU passport is expired so that I am in that situation of not being able to produce a valid passport once I will apply for my first British Passport.However, I still have my EU Identity card which can be considered as a genuine proof of identity ....but on their site it says that you need your ppt! what should i do?

I used this id card for my UK permanent residence & citizenship .

you will need to apply for a new passport and submit IPS would want a passport
