Question about british passport

Hello everyone
We have an old british passport expired since 1968 (protectorate of Kenya)
We used the service renew old passport (overseas passports)
We sent the application to HMPO before 3 months
Till now the application status is declaration form recieved, Being processed)
Is it good sign if they take a lot of time to decide ?
Should us hire a lawyer ?
What the difference if we send the application or the lawyer does ?
One of my friend had the same passport and the lawyer renew it before 6 months
What does the lawyer do? If he does the same thing we did we will not hire him
What should us do now ?
