Self Employment TAX year for Financial Requirement

Post by jafferdeen » Sat Jun 21, 2014 7:10 am

My brother is British national and he is applying spouse visa for his wife. She is in Pakistan.
His annual gross income is £28,000.He is self employed and running a chicken shop.
Confusion:-
We are confused with the Tax year.He is claiming £18,600 income for the Tax year 2012-2013.He has submitted Tax Return for 2012-2013 in Jan 2014 (which is dead line for online assessment).
As you know that the dead line for 2013-2014 tax year is Jan 2015.
Wife will submit her application next month July 2014.

Is it OK to use 2012-2013 income from self employment to fulfill the financial requirement OR he he has to submit new tax return for 2013-2014 which is technically due but the dead line is Jan 2015.

Please advice

If you got the money on the side to pay the jan 2015 tax then i would do so, this is what i have now done and i will be applying in the week or so.

As if the visa process takes 3-6 months anyway then it would be approaching jan 2015 and then the ECO may put you on hold or delay your application.

Make your applications as strong as possible by showing them you have paid the tax that is due 6 months early- that is what my accountant advised me to do anyway.

But legally as you know already you got until jan 2015 to pay. the tax will probably be about £3900 so its not much to hold in your account anyway.

they refer to the most recent tax year

this will now be 2013-2014

even though the deadline is next january, still you are allowed to file as early as 6th april 2014, and is he wants to use this route, he should file now
