Adequate maintenance fiance/spouse visa?

Post by katie2014 » Thu Nov 20, 2014 6:39 pm

I wonder if somebody could please help me.
I am in receipt of Carers Allowance, ESA & full Housing Benefit. I have no children.
I understand I am am over the adequate maintenance req to support my USA fiance. (I get about £135@ week)
I am wondering whether it would be better to go and marry my fiance in USA, return to UK (me) and then apply for the spouse visa to bring him here?
I have just under £4000 savings.
My question is, once we are married, if our joint savings take us over the income related benefit threshold, will this affect my income related benefits income as regards being able to be his sponsor?
Are we better to bring him here on a fiance visa first?
He has worked for the same company in USA for many years and our plan is to both work part time when I am well enough – though he will take on a full time job as soon as he is here as my spouse on the appropriate visa. Having him here would help my health enormously. Am under incredible stress and pretty poorly.
We can provide evidence of our 5 yr relationship and our accommodation is adequate re the HO rules.
Many thanks if anyone can help.
Katie :)
