Obtaining document / proof from Zimbabwe ( Causeway House)

Post by africanrose » Wed Nov 26, 2014 12:42 pm

I would be grateful if anyone can advise me as to how to get proof of certificates / documentation from Zimbabwe.

My father ( born in Namibia in 1929) worked in Zimbabwe and took up federal citizenship in the late 1950's . He worked for first for the Rhodesian Railways and then for the Rhodesian signals regiment and the 2KAR.

My brothers ( both now deceased) were both born in Zim in 1957 and 1958, I was born in Malawi in 1961 and my sister was born in Zambia in 1965 ( year after independence).

My Mum was a British citizen so we had the right to apply for ancestry visas, which my sister did successfully.

I obtained British citizenship in my own right because when I was born in Malawi it still had "protectorate status".

At the dissolution of the Federation, federal citizens were given the choice of becoming either British citizens or Southern Rhodesian citizens.

Now as my Dad had not lived in Zim from 1960 right up until we moved to SA in 1968, it is highly unlikely that he would have taken up Southern Rhodesian citizenship but we need to prove this.

If we can prove with documentation that my Dad did not take up Southern Rhodesian citizenship, then we are told that it is highly likely that my sister would also be eligible for British citizenship

But that's the rub... How do we get this proof?? I was even given an email address of a director at Causeway House but he has never even bothered to respond.

Does anyone have any advice on how we can obtain documented proof of whether my father did or did not become a "Southern Rhodesian" citizen at the dissolution of the federation... We would be most obliged.

Well if your sister had an Ancestry visa, did she not apply for ILR after 5 years and Citizenship after 6 years??

If your mother was British, she could register as British Citizen on form UKM.
