Yes, just apply for a British passport.lelichauer wrote:I am a USA citizen. Born in USA to an American father and British mother. Trying to figure out if I can return to the UK as a citizen by descent to be with my mum.
Facts:
Born in 1991
I'm over 18 years old
My parents were married at the time of my birth
My mother currently lives in the UK
It can't be as easy as applying for a passport, can it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
If your mother was born British and born in the the UK, then you were born British (by descent). You being over 18 won't change that.lelichauer wrote:Someone said I had to have done it before I was 18. That I don't qualify as "citizen by descent" since I'm over 18. But I can't find anything to support that.

There isn't anything to support that, as it's untrue. Petaltop is correct. You didn't need to do anything.lelichauer wrote:Someone said I had to have done it before I was 18. That I don't qualify as "citizen by descent" since I'm over 18. But I can't find anything to support that.
