Can i apply for Citizenship now?

Post by marko1984 » Sun Jun 28, 2015 7:15 pm

Hi All,

I'm confused with all the mix information I've been receiving.
I've been in UK for 8years now;
currently on: residence permit (settlement) since 02/01/2014
residence permit (spouse/Partner Leave to Remain) from 31/01/12 to 30/01/14
student visa from 27/09/07 to 04/03/12 (Bsc and Msc), no gap in my visa.

Can i apply for my Citizenship now or i need to wait 3years from 02/01/14?

Your answer/ reply is much appreciated.
Thank you.

If you have ILR and are married to a British Citizen, you could have applied as soon as you received your ILR in 2014 based on 3 years residence.

More information is probably required to help you, for example are you on PR or do you have ILR?
and what is your current nationality (or nationalities)?

Thank you for the reply,
I've got ILR (assuming that's settlement) and I'm a Malaysian married to a British citizen.

In that case, as CR001 advises (above), you could have applied for naturalisation already - or as soon as possible now;
that is assuming you meet the other requirements (including KOLL, absences, character & etc).

See the guide here:
