Moving to Ireland with Non EU spouse from UK

Post by emzim92 » Sat Sep 05, 2015 3:42 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a query. My husband(Zimbabwean) and myself (Irish passport holder) currently live in the UK. We wish to move to Ireland next year.

I have Irish citizenship through my Mother ( she was born there) and my husband is Zimbabwean living in the UK with an EEA family residence permit. We have been in the UK for 3 years, and we were married in Zimbabwe over 3 years ago. I have never lived in Ireland.
What would be the best way to move over to Ireland for my husband? Do we have to apply for a spousal visa from outside Ireland and wait? or can we go to Ireland and apply from within Ireland whilst I work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Provided you have worked in UK, your husband will qualify if your entered as an Irish Citizen under EU law, on the basis that you had resided in another memberstate and exercised treaty rights there.
