I am a Dual British/Egyptian Citizen and will be travelling to Egypt to register my marriage to my egyptian partner in January. I was thinking today about the visa application and realised I might have a few possible problems.
Firstly the Egyptian government has just enacted a new law no.9200/2015 which requires any foreign Male to deposit 50,000EGP ~ 4,500GBP in the central bank of Egypt under the brides name. This makes things quite difficult, the Egyptian Pound is a very weak currency and neither I nor my partner would like to have money uselessly hoarded there.
Also for a foreigner to register a marriage in Egypt they need to get approval from their embassy (proof they aren't married) and then go to the ministry of justice to officiate the ceremony rather than having a ceremony wherever.
At this point I think it is much easier for me to register the marriage as an Egyptian using my Egyptian ID, however there are still questions about this. Firstly, the marriage contract will be issued in Arabic, does it need to be certified from the ministry of justice or from the british embassy. Secondly my name is slightly different in Egypt, my fathers middle name is appended to my name there, so rather than being the UK version Ob... Ah... Mo... Fa..., it is instead Ob... Ah... Mo... Ab... Fa...
What options do I have in this case? The 50k deposit is extremly difficult for me and they just enacted the law this week which is ridiculous timing for me.
Thanks for your help.
