Application for EEA PR sponsor needs passport asap

I am just about to apply for EEA PR, but my sponsor would like his passport back as soon as possible after I submit the application. Does anybody know if there is a way to request this when I submit the application? Alternatively, any idea what other identification can I send for my sponsor instead of his passport.

Submit national id card or request passport back via HO/UKVI 'request documents back' webpage.

The safest would be to send an EU ID as @noajthan suggested because you might experience slight delays if you try to request the passport back !
