French work visa for a third country national in the UK

Post by clauferre » Mon Mar 28, 2016 11:02 pm

I am a Mexican currently living in the UK with a student visa (tier4) that expires on May 8. I got a job in Paris as a scientist that starts on May 1 and is initially for one year. The visa that I have to apply for is a special kind of working visa, scientist visa. I already have all my documents (including the hosting agreement provided by the university that will employ me), but I am not sure if I am allow to apply in the French consulate in London. My UK visa expires in 6 weeks, and when searching on internet I only found that for a short stay visa my UK visa has to be valid for 3 months after my departure from France. It is not clear for me for how long my UK visa needs to be valid when applying. Do I have to go back to my country (which is quite far) to apply for a French visa if my UK visa expires in less than 90 days?. I would be really grateful if someone can give me any advise.
