Failed to attend interview

Please can you help me to solve this problem. I had submitted my visa application with the relevent documents on the 8 february 2008 vis FedEx. I was assured that i would be informed within 5 working days of receipt of the application. I tried to find out the application status via landline phone, but unfortunately no one answered the phone even though, i tried various times of the day. I tried getting in touch via email and the website(Fedex website) and found that my application had been sent to islamabad and was under review. I decided to chase the matter myself on 4 march 2008 and found out that i was invited for interview on 29 February 2008 but i was not informed by anyone.The fedEx have admited their mistake but the British High Commission in Islambad want a explanation from me why i failed to attend the interview within six months.

i do not know what to do next please help me.
