Help! HSMP application rejected for payment reason?

Good day all.

I gathered my application and documentation (all signed and delivered) and sent it into the Home Office for an HSMP permit. I got it back around two weeks later in the mail, along with a covering letter stating that my payment had been rejected for the following reason:

"Form: Invalid Number"

My credit card information was all correct, and I have more than enough room to absorb the application fee. Has anyone else seen this before? What did I do wrong? The Home Office is quoting a five-week wait time to my query, and my immigration lawyer hasn't heard of this.
