Urgent Help Regarding Ancestry Visa!

Post by NaimBava » Thu Nov 22, 2018 11:11 am

Hello,

I am in a very odd position. I am a South African citizen, British born maternal grandparents. My mother has a British passport (by descent).

I live in Dubai, UAE. And will be applying from here.

1. My resident visa in Dubai expires December 16, 2018. I could apply this week and hit the deadline of 15 working days however is risky. Further getting my British lineage birth certificates would take a week. Hence if I apply to stay in Dubai legally under a tourist visa. Can I still apply for an ancestral visa. Or must I return to South Africa? I can state why I am not in my home country as I plan to immediately work in UK upon approval of this visa.

Thank you for your help,
Much appreciated

You can only apply in a country where you have legal residence, i.e. not as a tourist.

Thank you. But does it matter my residence visa in UAE expires next month? One lady said as long as a decision is made (15 working days) before expiry. Whereas another said as long as the application is started before it expires.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
