Passport return request

Hello everybody.
I applied for PR on basis of retained rights on 25/10/18 and got the COA on the 15th Nov. No updates after this. My residence card expired in 2015.

I have a trip booked for work before Xmas and I wanted to request my passport back but after reading some posts on this forum I am worried that by requesting it back it may result on my application being withdrawn by HO.

Any advice about this?

Also, will I be able to reenter the UK with the COA?
