Tier 2 dependent visa

Hello,

Is it possible for a UK Tier - 2 general applicant (who has 3 years and 2 months left for his visa to expire) to apply for Tier 2 general dependent visa (Up to 3 years) for his wife ? Or is it necessary to apply for a tier 2 dependent visa which is Up to 5 years?

You apply for the same category visa length as the main applicant. Spouse will get same visa end date as you.

Thanks for your response, basically I had applied for tier 2 general visa Up to 5 years and now I have 3 years and 2 months left for the visa to expire, I am the main applicant.
So does that mean, I have to apply for tier 2 general dependent visa Up to 5 years category for my wife? or is there an option for me to apply for tier 2 general dependent visa Up to 3 years category for my wife, as I have just a little over 3 years left for my (main applicant) visa to expire.
