common law partner and other queries

Post by RogerandJulia » Tue Jun 24, 2008 5:49 pm

Hi all,

We are new to these boards and wonder if somebody here can help us out with a little specific information, here is our situation.

I work in software and will be shortly applying to some big firms over in Canada to work at a games studio, i have pretty good knowledge and experience of friends that tell me these studios will sort out my paperwork, our problem and query concerns my girlfriend.

We have been together for approximately 2 years, the last year living together, she has done one of these immigration points calculators and scored very highly, over 80, as she is soon to be finished with her studies and qualified as an occupational therapist, she is also a fully qualified masseuse.

She is an Austrian passport holder and we have contacted the Canadian Embassy in Vienna who up until now have not been very helpful only pointing us to links to pages we have already read.

The question I have is what is involved for her to also get a work permit since we have not been together 3 years (a friend told me 3 years was the number they wanted for common law status). She is well educated, skilled and fluent in English. Does it all depend on her getting a job offer beforehand or is there some other way through the points system.

Oh another detail is she has an aunt already living there.

Thanks in advance for any information that sets us onto the right track.

Roger and Julia

Hmmm just get the job offer, exploit there...
Considering point scores and etc why are you concern/stressed?- just go for it!
Quick reminder- Time it takes to get through all of the biurocracy- dont waist anymore!
Best of Luck!
