l have just registered in the discussion board. I have recently been awarded a PhD degree in Computer Science from a top UK University. I have the desire to pursue Double Degree (DD) PhD as a cross-disciplinary PhD, in which the new course and my previous course combined, will deepen my specialist knowledge in the two interrelated areas and help me integrate my interest and skills in those areas. I am ambitious to do research in multiple connected fields to support my career aspirations in academia and research. I have applied for admission into a UK university. However, a friend informed me that there was a new act introduced in 2012 that puts a cap of 8 year time limit on Tier 4 visa. At the moment I live in the UK under TIER 4 General DES visa (Doctorate Extension Scheme). My question is whether the DES year will count towards the 8 year limit (Note: my fist visa start date was 16/19/2013 and my current visa expires on 26/10/2019). The new course will start in October for a duration of three years. My concern is whether I will be reaching the time limit and refused a visa.
