Under Investigation for Sham Marriage

Post by JackRibena » Mon Jun 24, 2019 11:28 pm

Hi all,

My friend and I studied at uni together and he recently lost his tier 2 job then he got married before leaving the UK.
I was invited to the wedding. The wedding did not have many people and I was present at the ceremony as a guest.
Several days after HO raided him suspecting sham marriage.
Should i be worried that HO also starts accusing me of conspiracy to facilitate in sham marriage by simply being present at the ceremony?

I didn't facilitate or even know his bride until the wedding... I am all legally in the UK on tier 2... can i be in trouble as well?

Just some thoughts could be helpful thanks.

Thanks.

You can get sentenced to 11months prison for assisting unlawful immigration by acting as witnesses to a sham marriage.

One of my colleague at work asked me to be his witness in registry office in 2012 but i politely declined because i knew it was sham marriage . Ofcourse he was lucky somehow . He is now a British citizen since 2015 after 10 years ILR in 2014.. I knew it can be problem

If you were just a guest, there is nothing to worry about.

I was once invited to a marriage of people I barely know (not in the UK), I went there and realized quickly something was off. It was, from my point of view, a sham. I quickly left.

There are not going to go after the guests. Even if you were a witnessed, you just witnessed a marriage happening and sign. You don't make any presumption about the validity of the relationship.
