SET(F) - who is the sponsor?

Post by Kitty » Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:29 pm

Application for settlement for a dependent child over 18 who came to the UK accompanying his mother (where the father was already in the UK with ILR).

Is the sponsor the child's mother (whom he accompanied to the UK and who is applying for settlement at the same time) or his father (who is already settled here)?

Concerned that as he accompanied his mother it should be her but she is obviously not settled yet, and the father is the main breadwinner.

If the child came with his mother to the UK, then the father must be the sponsor as he is settled in the UK, and it was him who sponsored his wife and child to come and jointhem in the UK.

So I would say the father is the sponsor because he is supporting the child.

On the other hand I may be wrong, and somebody else might say something different

I would prefer the father to be the sponsor. My concern is that the dependent's visa states that he is coming "to accompany his mother", although hers confirms she is coming "to join [husband]".
