Tier 4 to Tier 2

I am currently in Tier 4 student visa. I have got a job with COS. Is it necessary to stay in the UK and apply for Tier 2 visa or can I go back home and apply for tier 2 from there.

You need to check with the sponsor. Your COS may have been issued specifically for a switch from Tier 4 in the UK. An application made outside the UK has extra requirements for the sponsor, which they may or may not be willing to undertake (Resident Labour Market Test, Immigration Skills Charge, using a restricted CoS from their allocation).
