My eligibility to sponsor my wife

Post by WesNG » Thu Nov 28, 2019 2:16 am

Hello,

I have some hesitation when I am filling the Appendix 2 of VAF4A. Grateful if you can share your views.

I read an old post saying after ILR was granted, you are a “free man” and you could sponsor your current partner coming to UK after divorced.

My story was I obtained my PR back in May 2011 by way of partnership visa (not same sex partnership) being with my British girl fd for 5 years. Then something really bad happened between us so we decided to split in Aug 2011. After that I met my wife in Dec 2011. I naturalized to become a BC in Dec 2012.

My logic tells me that once I was granted PR, my status was nothing to do with my ex-gf anymore. Therefore I am still eligible to apply a spouse visa for my wife coming to UK, am I correct?

Also, since I didn’t have any ritual or civil ceremony with my ex-gf about our partnership, is it correct that I don’t have to provide my ex-gf’s personal information under para. 1.21 of Appendix 2, cover letter or anywhere else?

Many many thanks!

Yes if you were officially free to marry with second spouse

Incorrect as appendix 2 ask that information at page 3. Same information might be asked somewhere on other forms if appendix 2 is not needed to fill
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Thanks for your reply seagul.

That's where confuses me.
It says I need to provide info for previous marriage or civil partnership. As far as I understand, civil partnership means same-sex partners entering into a civil relationship.

I and my ex-gf were living together in a long time relationship. We did not sign anything to establish a formal relationship.

How do you think? Thankyou.
