Dual citizenship

Post by Fireinthehole2020 » Fri Jan 17, 2020 6:53 am

Hi! This board seemed like the best place to post this question but not entirely sure.

I have british citizenship since birth, currently living in USA. I will soon become a USA citizen through marriage. My USA document (citizenship certificate, not passport) will reflect my new surname whereas my UK pp reflects my maiden name.

I am due to travel soon and am not eligible for expedited UK passport renewal - so updating my UK pp before my travels is not an option.

My question is, when travelling from the US to the UK, I will need to show my uk pp as proof of entry eligibility. But my name wont match my ticket nor my US document. Is that a problem? Does uk airport border control even check any other documents/passports upon entry?

My return from the UK to the US should be fine i think as my citizenship certificate and ticket will correspond but need advice on the UK part.

TIA!

Hello

You can buy your ticket matching your US passport. Then, when you are in the UK, just use your UK passport either as a manned control point or an eGate. Most often than not, you will be directed to eGates and you are in the country within seconds.

UK immigration won't care if you have a second passport with your maiden name or anything. You don't even have to show them your US passport, your flight tickets or talk about your plans.

I have 3 passports and I when I come to the UK, I show the UK passport only regardless or any other passport I used in another country during my trip.
