Extension Under Tier 1 General from India

Hello Everyone,

I would like your help in this matter, I have been an MSc student in U.K. followed by HSMP approval under old rules, I am currently working as a Scientist and qualify under new rules too, but my problem is I have to go to India for 2.5 months due to family reasons, from November, 2008 to may be mid of January, 2009. My current HSMP is running out on 11th December, 2008. Can I apply for my extension from India (my home country), and if I do apply from there how long does it take for me to get the approval/get it stamped from India?

If anyone knows anything about extension of Tier 1 from India, please let me know, it would be a great help. Thanks to those of you who have taken their time to read my query and reply to me (in advance)-

Application for leave to remain (read extension) can only be made from within the UK.
