SPOUSE VISA NAME CHANGE

Post by SamiAliii » Thu Apr 09, 2020 2:28 pm

Hi there,

don't know if I am posting this on the right forum

my husbands spouse visa is due to be extended next year, however I am bit concerned
my employer got me to change my name and thus my name has changed on my payslips and on my tax form to MRS then my spouses surname
but all my other documents for example banking, driving licence, uk passport is in my maiden name Miss followed by my maiden name

when I apply for an extension will this cause a problem or will I be fine :(

I don't want to change the name on all my documents cause its too much hassle and due to coronavirus theres extreme delays due to shortage of staff SO I DONT WANT my original documents lost through the post or dumped due to confusion

hope someone can advise me

Employer most often never suggest/force for adopting the married name due to its being optional. Although that seems very unusual in your case but still it won't affect his visa provided the marriage certificate confirms that name. He will be granted spouse visa according to his name in passport. Hopefully until the next year the current pandemic/lockdown will be over allowing you to update your married name to all authorities hassle freely.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Are you confident that there wont be any problem if I apply next year with a different name from my employer and a different name on other documents ?

Moreover, it could be problematic where the applicant has adopted the new married name who would have to apply a new passport. If you don't wish to adopt new married name then you should contact your employer & HMRC who shouldn't have any issue in changing back it to your maiden name.
