Typo on marriage certificate? Please advise

NB - We checked this out at the registrar and turns out the age they put is the age you will turn that year (regardless of when during that year) so it wasn't a typo - phew!


I have just noticed a minor typo on our marriage certificate - we will be applying for settlement visa in a few months.

The typo is my husbands age - it should say 25 and it says 26. He is actually now 26!! (married on 10th july, he was 26 on 31st july!!)

Will this be a big problem? Does anyone know? Can you change these sorts of things?

Where did the marriage take place? We had the same problem. My husband's year of birth was shown as 76 and not 77 on our marriage certificate. It wasn't noticed when we applied in Spain for the spouse visa, and we didn't see the error until we were about to apply for FLR in the UK.
We contacted our solicitor in Spain who took a copy of the certificate together with a copy of my husband's passport to the local town hall where we had married and they issued an official acknowledgement of the error which we included with our original certificate in the our visa application.

It was in Kenya - I've asked a few people and they think its so minor its not worth worrying about! Cos its literally a case of 2 weeks (and he turned 26!)

Could you get a written acknowledgement of their error from where the certificate was issued, just to be on the safe side?

Can they re issue one do you know? if its still not that long ago we got married - I will have to get my husband to ask, thanks

It's worth a try. They may say that they can't re-issue or amend an original certificate. But if they will give your husband a written admission of their error in writing that should be fine. It was for us.
