When to return old BRP card? After decision letter or receiving the new BRP?

Hi all,

I have a question about returning my old BRP to the home office?

I extended my tier 2 visa. I received the decision letter 2 days ago telling that I will receive the new BRP in 7 working days. In the letter it said that I have to return the old BRP after cutting it?

Shall I return it now? Or shall I wait till i receive my new BRP then send the old one?

Do I have to write any note when returning the old brp or just put the card in the envelope by itself?
