Filling out form NQ online for someone deceased

Post by TallFriendlyGinger » Wed Nov 25, 2020 12:37 pm

Hi there,

I am having trouble filling out form NQ online - applying for a letter to confirm you have never acquired British nationality. My mother is trying to apply for Italian citizenship and needs to find out whether her Italian mother ever got British citizenship after 1986.

It says on the government website you can fill out the form online, however it is very confusing how to fill the form out if you are applying on behalf of someone who is deceased. The paper form clearly states where to put the deceased's personal details etc. however the online web based form does not.

Has anyone had any experience with this and could help please? We don't want to put the wrong information in and lose the £250 fee, and the postal application apparently takes much longer to process.

I am also wondering whether the validity of 3 months for this letter is extended for someone who is deceased? As they cannot change their nationality after death.

Thank you.
