Absences from UK

Post by afriley » Tue Jan 05, 2021 5:04 pm

Hi all,

Just got a bit panicked after seeing an earlier comment re SMS reporting of absences.

I had a couple of long overseas absences this year - 7 weeks over the summer and 4 weeks over Christmas. Most of these was annual leave and university closure days, since I took no leave over Easter due to Covid I accumulated quite a few days over summer. I’ve also worked abroad - work from home - for a couple of weeks during these absences. All absences were fully paid and authorised. I will not have been absent for over 180 days in any 12 month period.

Is it true that absences over 4 weeks - even if fully paid - need to reported via SMS? I’ve never heard of this before and my HR hasn’t told me of this requirement when I asked them about short periods of WFH abroad attached the annual leave...

I think it's about unpaid leave above 4 weeks that needs to be reported. That's what I remember reading on this forum.
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.
