Changing Council for Ceremony

Post by itsallmyfault » Mon Feb 15, 2021 7:19 pm

Hi

I'm not finding a response through searching.

We have been trying to get a response by email from Citizenship support for over 3 months, but nothing.
Has anyone else had a successful email response?

The job I was moving to another county with fell through. My wife received her approval letter today dated 04 Feb 21 stating that she has 21 days from the date on the letter to arrange a ceremony.

Now we are nowhere near the location that we were, and need to change councils.

Is there a clear way to do this?

Do we contact the council first or the Homeoffice?
Thanks,
Richard

Given corona delays, do not even think about changing the council at this stage. It will be a nightmare and you will possibly be waiting for months. Council changes even pre-corona took months.

Attend the ceremony at the old council. Contact old council to arrange ceremony. Your paperwork will be sent to the old council also.

You will encounter another problem. Your old council will only send the certificate to the old address. You will have to check if they offer in person ceremonies. If they offer virtual only, your certificate will be sent at the old address.

Think about your options carefully before attempting to change the council.
