Old COS on skilled visa application

Post by bentrahern » Sat Dec 04, 2021 1:49 pm

Hi there I am an NHS radiographer who was previously on the Tier 2 sponsorship visa. I applied for a new skilled worker (health and care) visa as my current Tier 2 expires on the 14th December 2021.
I applied in mid October and the HR department mistakenly didn't think I needed a new COS number. (I also assumed the same) My old COS number was on the application form and the home office has now told me I need the new one within ten working days in order to process the visa. HR is chasing it up now and just making sure the funding for the sponsorship is given the go ahead via my boss.

Does anyone know how fast a new COS can be generated? What should I do if I cannot get the home office the new COS in time and my application is refused? Will I have then technically overstayed and need to leave? And is this a serious problem? And is a visa refusal a huge problem in the future if its an administrative error like this one?

Thanks all in advance!

If your employer still has CoS allocations, they can issue it in a few minutes.

If the employer doesn't currently have an allocation they can get one in 5 working days using the priority service (cost £200)

Great thanks for the responses, my worry is HR will be slow and not get the number in time. They are a large NHS trust so presuming they will have COS to allocate?

Is this error entirely my fault?
I asked HR before sending in my application if anything else was needed from their end. And they said they had used the employee checking in service and would just await my new visa so I went ahead.

At the time unfortunately I did not realise a new COS needed to be allocated.

Thanks again and I hope this will be all ok!

Tell HR that if they don't produce a CoS you will not be able to continue working for them. Also inform your line manager, I expect s/he will put pressure on HR
