Am i bankrupt

Post by HelpSeeker » Wed Nov 05, 2008 10:47 am

Hi
i came to UK in 2004 on student visa, studies there got my degree from the reputed university.

on Nov 2006 i got a small loan from a financial institution of about 7500 pounds, i paid the debt 2 times, then for some reasons i had to get back to my country, and obviously all my accounts would be closed as well.
i started a business in my country while i was there with that money, i lost almost every thing in that ..........

Now i want to come back to UK as immigration, so can you tell me the following things

1-------- am i bankrupt
2-------- does that effect their decision (as i m bankrupt) not to give me visa or they dont look at that credit history) or can i apply for immigration

3-------- do i have to go to jail for that on arriving there
4-------- my credit history ?????

5-------- what 's the case if i want to pay them

thanx

So two payments were made to the loan. That means the debt is outstanding since when the 3rd payment would have been due.

They have probably written off the debt but your credit history will be under default and you will be very very lucky to get a bank account open anywhere in the UK with that status.

With regards to applying for a visa. It should not make any difference to your visa application. I have not known them to do credit checks on people.

I assume this was a bank and you held your bank account with them too. In that case you would have shown passport ID to open first account. On their investigations of your non payment they would have realised this. If they have passed this on to the HO then that could be against your name.
