Ancestry visa - Dependent spouse/partner application

Post by howth260 » Mon Apr 25, 2022 11:40 pm

Hi all,

My partner is eligible for the Ancestry visa pathway, and I am intending to join as a dependent spouse/partner.

The UK gov website says you can apply at the same time as your partner, however I am a little confused about a few things:

- Is the correct visa sub-category Dependants of other work categories (staying for more than 6 months)?
- After completing the application, the immigration health surcharge amount only comes to 1 year's worth, when I know the visa is 5 years. Does anyone have experience with this part, and do I have to pay one year now and then the remainder later on?
- Do I need to wait for my partner to get their visa approved before I apply?

Thanks all!

No, unless your partner is already in the UK on an ancestry visa you can apply for entry clearance at the same time as s/he does. Your visa will be for the same length of time as your partner's, normally 5 years. In your application you'll be asked to cross-reference your partner's visa or visa application.

When you apply you'll normally have to pay the IHS for the whole visa duration. If you pay less UKVI will email you asking for the difference.

Without seeing all the categories listed on the form I think this is the correct category.
