Citizenship Application EU National (Settled Status)

Post by UA1265Y » Sat May 21, 2022 11:07 pm

Hi,

So I am a EU National (Portuguese) holding a settled status which was granted in June 2019. I want to apply for the Citizenship as I currently intend to leave and work in the UK. I have passed life in the UK test and hold English language B2 certificate. Now my issue is I was in full time employment for 5 years till May 2021 last year when I left my work in order to go onto full time training course for 6 months. My training course finished in January this year but since then I am not employed or not claiming any benefits. My question is will this affect my citizenship application if I apply via the settled status route?

I have got all of the P60s from 2017 till 2021, But from May 2021 till now can I use my bank statement as proof of residence? The only time I have been away from UK is when I went to Portugal back in 2018 for 2 days.

Note there's only one route available to you (and all applicants), Settled Status/ILR.
Employment is not a requirement for naturalisation, you can be unemployed, student, retired, etc. Also no financial requirements.
For the period you are not working you could use a council tax bill or other official type correspondence/documents from HMRC/NHS/DWP, for example. Bank statements are not accepted as proof of residency.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Thanks for reply however I don't have any other official type documents listed above. Would utility bills (Broadband) count?

Perhaps you have a rental or mortgage agreement? No contact with public bodies?
Difficult to tell what you could provide, if all else fails try statments and utility bills though they are not absolute proof of residency, UKVI may ask for further information if they deem it necessary.
