Proof of living in the UK for 5 years - application for ILR

Post by Vivill » Tue Oct 03, 2023 11:29 am

Hi, I am glad to know this forum as I am nervous about I am failure to meet the requirement for providing proof of living in UK for 5 years for the application for ILR.

Hope I can get some advice from here and thanks in advance.

For the first 2 years stay in UK, I lived in friends' home (I have changed 4 homes in 2 years time and thank you for friends help), so I do not have any council tax bill, utility bills. I also do not have payslip as I had no job. For bank statements, there was no transaction as daily expenditure is paid by my son.

So what I have is I have occasionally received GP/hospital letters (might be 6-8 letters for these 2 years sending to these 4 homes). Could it be sufficient for proof of address for the first 2 years stay in UK? I am really worrying my application will be refusal.

Thank you very much!

Not sure what visa you're on. Based on your flag (China), your passport gets stamped when you enter into the UK. That's evidence that you're in the UK.
If you need to prove residency with someone or an address, then that's a different kettle of fish. You only can use what you have.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

There is no proof of living in the UK requirements in general. For dependant/spouse routes, cohabitation evidence is simply needed

Hi Ticktact, thank you for your swifty reply. I am from Hong Kong, so my passport didnt stamp when I enter. Do you have further opinion on me only providing in totla 6-8 GP/hospital letters as proof of address for the first 2 years stay in UK? Thank you!

Hi Zimba, Thank you for your swifty reply. I am using BNO visa route as I am from Hong Kong, When I submit online application for ILR, the website remind me to have proof of living in UK and if passport not stamp. then letters from emploer or government department can be as proof.

So I also wonder if GP letters are accepted? and I do not have GP letters for every month, so if 6-8 letters for these 2 years is alright?

Sorry for keep asking questions. Thank you!

When it comes down to it, provide all that you have.
