Do I have to renew ILR after a certain time period?

Post by dave000 » Sun Dec 03, 2023 5:43 pm

Hi,

I got an ILR this Oct 2023 and want to know if I will have to renew my ILR after a certain period, for instance, after 10 years. Is it something like a passport with an expiry date? I know in 2024 biometric cards will be replaced by a digital thing. I'm not sure if renewal of ILR would be needed.

Thanks.

Note it says "indefinite" leave to remain meaning permanent and doesn’t need to be renewed. You could loose ILR if you are away from the UK for more than two years.

With changes to proving your status I would suggest you keep an eye on developments. The Home Office may not write to everyone.

This has been answered many many times. ILR renewal is menaingless. Your ILR BRP is NOT a visa in which your legal status is lost after expiry, ILR status is permanent and has nothing to do with the expiry date of the card. A BRP is just a means to prove your settled status. They will be phased out from 1st Jan 2025.
