Disclosing Civil Judgments for Spouse visa application

Post by astralmonad870 » Sun Jan 21, 2024 1:06 pm

Hi, will a past (expired) restraining order affect my visa application? I'm a US national applying for a UK spouse visa and there is a question asking for disclosure of all civil judgments. I had a restraining order taken out against me years ago by a former friend that expired in 2019. The funny thing is that this order was granted without me being present. I do not have anything else that could negatively affect my application, as I do not have any criminal convictions whatsoever.

Thank you in advance.

Just for further information, I had a civil restraining order granted against me by my former friend and roommate in 2017, that expired in 2019 . This was over a dispute over him not returning my possessions. I never harmed or harassed my roommate, but this order was granted without me being present at any hearing just because he didn't want to be inconvenienced by me contacting him.

I want to be honest and disclose this on my application since it has been less than 5 years since the order expired so it may come up on a background check. But I'm afraid that if I disclose this on my application, the visa office will see me as being anti-social. Would this order be seen as committing any crime of moral turpitude like 'domestic violence'? Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

I don't think that it could negatively affect your spouse visa application in anyway.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
