Skilled Worker Visa Extension - different tenure of Cos and IHS

Post by bhavinvt » Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:41 am

Hi - My skilled worker visa's CoS was issued in Apr-201 for 3 yrs and it expires in Apr-2024. I arrived in the UK 2 months later in Jun-2021. I am now confused whether I should request the employer for a 2-year extension or 3-year extension so that I am then eligible for ILR (5-year stay requirement). I want to save money on IHS because the new surcharge will be effective next week (6-Feb).

Is it possible to get a 3-year CoS which is valid till Apr-2027 and I then pay surcharge for 2yrs and 2months only (until Jun-2026 when I complete 5-years stay in country) because that is all I need for being eligible for ILR application.
Or
Is it possible for an employer to apply for 2yrs and 2months CoS (until Jun-2026 when I complete 5-years stay in country) so that I pay IHS surcharge for that shorter duration only and then apply for ILR
