Introductory post (hi!) and a few questions

Post by nicky81 » Sat Jan 31, 2009 2:47 am

Hi all,

My name is Nicky, I'm Australia and I'm hoping to apply for Tier 1 mid-March. I've only been working since July 08 but am trying to get over there as soon as possible because I miss my British boyfriend!

I'm 27, have a Masters degree, and failing any any currency swings I will earn enough by then (approx AU$50 000 or just over 23 000 pounds) to have 75 points and be able to apply.

Some questions:
1) My pay period runs until a Sunday, but the money enters my account the previous Tuesday. For example, this pay period is until 1 Feb but I got paid on Tuesday 27 Jan. I will ask my payroll officer to note this on the letter she will write detailing each pay I received and total pay over the period - will this be ok?

2) I have been to the UK quite a few times over the last few years, once on a WHV when it allowed working the full 2 years (arrived in 2005 and did work the full 2 years) and also short visits to my boyfriend. This may sound paranoid but do they look badly on visiting a partner as a reason to have visited the UK?

3) I have had over AU$8000 in an ESAVE account attached to my main account with regular withdrawals for more than 3 months. I can swap money backwards and forwards between the two accounts at any time and it is immediately available. Is this ok?

I am an overthinker for sure, but it seems like you have to be for this process!

Thanks for any responses.

Hello Nicky.

My personal opinions to your questions are:

1) I don't think this will be a problem. You ought to be able to claim points for a 12 month earning period in the last 15 months, so if you used 2nd Feb 2008 - 1 Feb 2009 as yours and you meet the requisite criteria, you should be fine.

2) This may have been an issue had you reapplied for the WHM Visa (though I couldn't swear to it), it shouldn't be an issue with the Tier 1, as you qualify to enter the country in your own rights with the intention of working. And if you happen to have a boyfriend here, then that's just an extra bonus for you!

3) It sounds like it should be alright. I'd get a letter from your bank confirming the same just to be on the safe side. (p.s. I don't have any idea hgow much A$8000 is...but am assuming that's roughly the equivalent of the maintenance funds you need to show).

Good Luck!

ans to ur quest

1. date of salary credit in ur bank account doesnt matter. most people get paid in their bank account before the date mentioned on the salary slip

2. ur visits to UK will be no prob at all

3. Make sure u have proper bank statements and are original and clearly depict the minimum balance for the required period
