UK family permit?

Post by bunny80 » Sat Feb 07, 2009 7:33 pm

I'm a romanian citizen about to marry a US citizen in Romania and we want to move to the UK right after. We tried to do it in the UK last year as I was living there but she got sent back to the US at Heathrow and they told her to get a visa if we want to do it in the UK.

What i was wondering is what we would need to do in order to get the family permit from the UK embassy in Romania? We called them and they said that it usually takes 10 days but since she has a denied entry stamp in her passport it would take longer. They also said they need proof it isn't a sham marriage. The only way we could do this is show online personal messages or emails going back 3-4 years but I don't know if it's enough and I'm not sure what else we can do about it.

I would be going into the UK as self-sufficient but I am not sure how much money I need to show (I do have bank statements from my UK bank account that show transfers of about 10k £ coming in every 2 months). Is it worth hiring a solicitor for this?

Thanks for any input!
