UK Citizen Marrying in another country

Post by Antek » Sun Mar 16, 2025 10:21 pm

Hi Learned Advisors,

If a British Citizen wishes to marry a Non-EU woman in that Non-EU country, does he need to notify home office or local British Embassy in that Non-EU country about this marriage beforehand ?

Is it allowed for the woman (spouse) to apply for a UK spouse visa just after marriage ?

Which one is easier to obtain ?Applying for a Fiancee visa (partner) or Spouse visa to UK?

Any advice will be appreciated?

Thanks

A British citizen is free to get married in any country, under the local laws, irrespective of UK immigration rules and visa options. There are no reporting requirements. Which visa route to go is up to you - if you are already married then it's spouse visa with all it's requirements.
