Child OCI Update Process – From UK vs India

I would appreciate your guidance regarding the process to update my child’s OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) following a UK passport renewal. I am trying to understand the process and implications of completing this from either the UK or India.

My child’s UK passport is due to expire in 13 months, and I am planning to renew it shortly. As I understand, the UK passport can be renewed from either the UK or India, with a similar process.

If I renew the passport from the UK:

• The new passport will likely be issued within 3–4 weeks.

• I can then update the OCI details via the online OCI portal using the new passport information.

• The update process may take around 6–8 weeks.

• In the meantime, is it permissible for the child to travel to India using the old OCI and new passport, while the OCI update is still in progress? Kindly confirm.

If I choose to renew the passport and update the OCI from India:

• Am I correct in assuming that there would be no issue with intermediate travel or documentation, and that the OCI update might be simpler to manage locally?
