Nationality question in visa application

Post by cherrytrees » Tue Oct 07, 2025 9:49 am

Hi,

I'm currently applying for my two months old child as a dependant on my skilled worker visa (the latter which has already been approved).

Neither my partner or I are british citizens citizens or yet to qualify for indefinite leave to remain, but we are Australian citizens, so my child will be considered Australian by descent.

We are in the process of applying for their Australian citizenship, however the estimated time for this is over 3 months. My newborn will lose access to the NHS if they do not have a visa by 3 months after they're born.

In the application they ask for their nationality. Given I haven't received formal confirmation of their Australian citizenship but do not expect any issues, can I still put down "Australian" or would this be incorrect? Additionally what is the importance of that field for the visa?

Thank you

Yes you can put Australian as the child nationality, as the child is Australian.
